Mission:
Getting started
Location: Bridge/Ready Room
Timeline: MD001
Amelia Gordon rode the turbolift to the bridge studying the PADD she held in her hand, having left her belongings to be transferred to her quarters. She had to report to her new Captain. She just hoped this posting would last longer than the last one. If she had to learn an entirely new command staff every three months or less she would want to jettison herself out an airlock. The lift doors opened and Amelia stepped out onto the bridge, her eyes quickly searching for either the Captain or the XO so she could make this transfer official.
Major Jennifer Griffiths was on the bridge looking around, the Sovereign-class bridge was very large and it would take some getting used to then a blue shirt comes onto the bridge with Lieutenant Pips on, she looks at her "Yes Lieutenant, what may I do for you?" she asked.
Amelia smiled and walked over to the officer, who by her rank insignia was a Marine Major and if the PADD was correct, Was the ship's XO. "Lt. Amelia Gordon, Reporting in for Duty as Chief Science Officer, Ma'am," Amelia said as she held out the PADD with her transfer orders.
Jennifer took the Padd and read it before signing off on the transfer orders, "welcome to the Siren Lieutenant, you familiar with a Sovereign Class?" Griffiths asked the Lieutenant. "Unless you have bridge duties you are free to settle into your quarters then report to duty, also this is Captain O'Donnahue, our new commander," she said introducing the Captain.
"No Ma'am, This is my first time on this classification of starships," Amelia replied, "It's quite impressive." She turned to the Captain at the introduction, "Captain O'Donnahue, it will be my honour to serve this vessel and crew to the best of my abilities. I am looking forward to working with both you and the Major."
"My first time on a Sovereign too Lieutenant" Griffith's simply said, she kept it short so that the Captain could respond.
Rian snapped round to look at both the major and the lieutenant "My apologies both, my mind was in far off climbs" he said with a brief smile "Welcome on board lieutenant Gordon. She's a brand new sovereign got all the bells and whistles" he said with a wink "When your file came across my desk I signed off on the transfer straight away. Stewart really held the best of the best didn't he?" he said with a wide smile.
Amelia blushed, "I don't know about that, Sir. I just go where they tell me to go." She smiled back at the captain, "I believe I'm good at what I do, but not sure about that 'best of the best part."
Rian smiled "Well I'm sure you know your way around a lab," he said with a slight laugh "so how was the previous assignment with the USS Churchill my brother was the fighter lead for the Churchill before she was decommissioned," he said with a slight smile "Major do you have the pads?" He asked his new XO looking towards her for a brief moment.
Jennifer nods, "yes Sir, here the Padd is," she said handing the transfer padd over to the Captain for him to have a look at, while she returned her attention to the Lieutenant. "So Lieutenant Gordon, what was it like on the Churchill before she was decommissioned?" Griffiths asked.
Amelia waited for the captain to review her orders. She smiled at Jennifer, "Well, it was different, to say the least. I wasn't there all that long and had barely had time to get to know the crew. Although I probably didn't make the best impression with the security officer."
Rian laughed "I heard the commanding officer was a little bit of a firecracker if his brother was anything to go by," he said looking over "Well I mean I know a lot of people can rub security officers the wrong was hell even I've rubbed 'em the wrong way," he said laughing a little.
Amelia shrugged, "Rubbing them the wrong way is one thing. I downright told him he was not very helpful the day of my arrival on the ship. I arrived in the middle of a celebration, in fact, it was for the Captain's promotion ceremony, but he hadn't arrived yet. I was trying to find the person I needed to report to. This guy was less than helpful, and imagine how stupid it made me feel when another officer greeted me and then walked off, only to have that Security guy tell me afterwards that the other officer was the captain."
Sighing lightly "well Lieutenant, we all come across people like that, there is nothing we can do about it, sadly as if something could be done I would have done it sooner to a few I met in the past and I would not be so crazy this day," Griffiths said with a smile.
Amelia nodded with a slight lift of her eyebrows, "I am sure this won't be the last time I have to deal with a situation like that, I just hope I've learned to handle it better for the next time." She really just wanted to forget how badly she had behaved with that officer. She silently hoped she would not ever have to deal with something like that again. Right now what she really wanted was a good nights sleep. The whole situation of getting moved from one ship to another so quickly had been exhausting. She sighed deeply and smiled, "Do we have any idea when the maiden voyage will begin? I am looking forward to getting out there and learning about all the wondrous discoveries that have been made recently, and maybe, just maybe, make a few of my own."
Rian laughed a little "We all have our crosses to bear to lieutenant I'm only just learning of that myself" he said looking around "All we can all do is move forward from situations and learn and I will give you every chance to learn and flourish aboard the siren" he said returning a smile to her, Simon Stevens was still fresh in his head and Starfleet ops would arrive any minute to start the investigate what had happened "Well as of now we have a few hours till we get underway to Avalon station where Starfleet security ops will be meeting us to conduct their investigation of my previous XO Simon Stevens" he said with a slight gulp.
Amelia could see that whatever had happened with the former XO, was deeply felt by the captain. "I am sorry, Sir. I hope whatever has happened will be resolved." She paused, slightly uncomfortable with the current subject, so she took a deep breath and smiled, "Is there anything else I need to know, Captain? I am sure you have at least a million other tasks that must be attended to at this time."
With the Captain otherwise distracted a moment Jennifer responded, "the previous XO was linked with something bad concerning the original Siren, but as for anything else you need to know, I cannot think of anything else, you Captain?" Jennifer asked.
Rian snapped to attention "I have no further questions major and I think our chief science officer could do with some well earned R&R your first shift is tomorrow morning alpha shift" he said with a brief smile "You are Dismissed Lieutenant" he said with a wide smile and an outstretched hand.
Amelia smiled and took the offered hand. "Thank you, Captain, I look forward to working with you, hopefully for a long time." She took back her hand, nodded to the Major and then turned to go find her quarters and unpack.
Rian smiled as she walked away, knowing now that the crew was almost full gave him a lot of joy "See you on the morro lieutenant" he said with a clipped smile a few hours and this mess would start to unravel.
Griffith's looks at the Captain "Stevens really did a number on you, Captain!" She said and it was not a question but an observation of what she saw at that moment in time.
He looked over to his XO "Bad nights and Old habits major that's all he is now" it was true but the pit of rians stomach and heartfelt heavy, the betrayal still clung to him like a wash of smoke on a gang plank on a ship "An old Habit i hope to stamp out" he retorted a little malice clinging to his voice like a poison filtering through his blood stream.
"Well as time try Captain, as times try" was all Griffiths said and took her place at the XOs chair to the Captain's right, she found the free-standing console in front of her chair to be a weird addition to her station, but logical.
