Message from Dad!

355 words; about a 2 minute read
Mission:
Getting started
Location: Academy Dorm
Mairie had enjoyed meeting the others, but that still didn't mean she was happy she was here in the first place. She arrived back at the dorms to find a message waiting for her. She sat down at the small desk and opened the communique. She huffed when she saw it was from her father.
"Mairie, I am proud of you for entering the academy," it began...
Mairie's reaction was to glare at the message and respond, "Like I had a choice in that you old farg dung!" Shaking her head she continued reading...
"while I am fully aware this was not your first choice, or even a choice at all, In time you will understand that I only want the best for you. The academy will provide you a home and a family, much more than you can ever realize now."
Mairie let out a loud "HA! And what about the family you just left behind for all those years, Dad! Didn't we count? Mom dies so you just dump me on Gran?"
Mairie was getting angry again. Mad at her father, mad at her mother, even mad at Gran for dying and just mad at the world in general. She read the rest of the message, short as it was...
"I know it doesn't feel like it, but things will get better. You are a very smart young woman. Use that and you will go far. Be safe. I really do love you, Dad."
Mairie stood up and paced the room, "Right, you love me. Ha!" She needed to get out and run or find something that she could shatter into a zillion pieces like she wanted to do to her father. Mairie Stormed out of the dorms, pushing anyone aside that got in her way and found a running path leading into a wooded area. She didn;t care that it was getting dark, she didn't care that cadets were supposed to be in their dorms for the night, she didn't even care that she had no idea where the path led. She just wanted to get as far away as possible.
