Mairie Fae O'Connell wasn't a happy camper. She just lost the only person in her life that really meant something to her. Gran's death had come as a shock, but it shouldn't have. Mairie just hadn't been paying enough attention to the fact that Gran was getting older and weaker. And the fact that her father hadn't even bothered to return home for the funeral or even the aftermath just left her feeling abandoned and alone. It didn't help matters any that 5 days after Gran's funueral, some goons showed up and handed her documents that said she was being relocated and she had to pack up what she wanted to take. Everything else would be placed into storage. When she questioned why, the answer was that dear old Da had made all the arrangements from whatever rock he was hiding under.
Mairie looked out at the landscape as the shuttle touched down on the academy grounds. She huffed at how it looked too perfect. "I'm never going to fit in here, Da. What were you thinking?" She thought to herself as she struggled to pick up the two makeshift duffle bags full of those items she was able to pack. Maire was directed to a building to check in and get her room assignment. For a moment she wondered if she could just walk away, but there were people in uniforms all over the place pointing her in the right direction, so that thought was quickly squashed before it came to fruition.
Mairie entered the building and over to a desk where a receptionist, she supposed, was sitting. "Umm, Hey, I'm supposed to get checked in or something. Is this the right place?"
The man at the desk looked up and nodded then pointed to a doorway, "In there, they'll tell you what to do. And Welcome to the academy!"
It was new cadets day, so both director and deputy director were out and about meeting new cadets. Medical staff were also flocking around the campus, and there were some fleet staff about as well.
Linda was sitting behind a table with padds. She was sitting next to Commodore O'Donnaghue. Looking at all the cadets she leaned over and whispered to the commodore. "You really think it was ok for Commander Layla O'Donnaghue to go out and about? I mean I know her record states she is a brilliant brain surgeon, but...is that really her?"
EJ Looked to his right to find his second in command "I'll have less of that masters regardless of who you may think Layla is and or was she is my family first and foremost her track record is none of your concern least of all mine shes a gifted surgeon and medical officer I pay no head to what people say about her because I have known the girl since was a boy and belive me no one and I mean no one will ever harm a hair on that girls head ill kill them my self are we clear masters?" he said matter of factly "Next question please and try not to make it a stupid one?" he said rolling his eyes looking at her.
"Right," Linda nodded and then turned to the next cadet at the table. "What is your name, cadet?"
Mairie frowned at being called cadet. At this moment she wished her father was here so she could tell him where he could put this academy thing. With a sigh she stepped forward to the table, "My name is Mairie Fae O'Connell." Mairie looked around the room. Everyone seemed to be excited to be here but her. All she wanted was to go back home to Gran, but that was impossible. Mairie was still dealing with her death a little over two weeks ago. Why her father thought this was a good idea was beyond her. But she would show him! He was just a cog in the works of a ship, Mairie decided right then and there that she would show him she was better than him. She'd command the whole ship. She smirked as a thought crossed her mind that one day she might even get to tell HIM what to do for a change. "What do I need to learn to be a starship captain? That's what I want to do!"
"Starship, captain? Aiming high aren't we, cadet?" Linda looked through the stack off padds on her desk. "Ah here we go, Cadets O'Connel. "Why don't you learn about ships operations first before you command one, okay?" She smiled to Mairie. "This has your dorm room and senior cadet you need to report to on it. But report to medical first for a medical exam. Any questions before I send you of? Well other than commanding a ship of course."
Mairie took the offered PADD and sighed disappointedly that she couldn't go straight to command. She glanced at the PADD to see where she would be staying and the name of the senior cadet she was supposed to report to. "I guess I don't have a choice," she said with a shrug. She turned to leave, looking for where she needed to go for the medical exam, another thing she wasn't looking forward to doing, but seeing as she had no other option she headed off in the correct direction.
