Mission:
Getting started
Location: Where Ever the Captain is
Abigail could feel her heart racing as she first stepped on to the USS Siren. She just couldn't believe she was being assigned here!
"Oh my gosh!" she breathed out, gawking at her surroundings.
She tripped slightly catching her foot on an invisible crack, her thoughts grumbling about how that pesky ghost of a crack seems to follow her wherever she went. Or maybe it was a 'gnome' that caused it. Something she and her siblings jokingly referred as to the causes of aches, pains and tripping over invisible things. It gave a funny way to look at things instead of getting mad.
"Are you okay, Cadet?" a concerned crewman asked.
"Oh yes.. don't worry I seem to do this when I am not being observant of my surroundings. Say, could you direct me to where...." she looked at her PADD to get the name right, "Captain Rian O'Donnaghue is at?"
"Sure go on the turbolift..." The crewman giving directions on where to possibly find the Captain.
It had been a rush in the morning the siren was due for her shake down and they were about to fly out into space without a medical officer, luckily the Commodore, Rians father had a last minute cadet transfer who was in her final year and would pass out on the ship and gain full honours. Working with Rian would be a lesson all its own and he was very excited to get to know the young lady pressing his comm badge "Cadet Abigail Gordon to the captains ready room you've just passed my door" he said with a chirp.
Wide eyed, Abigail did an about face and went to the ready room. "Hello, Captain I got caught up in looking at everything, got a little bit... lost?" giving a slight laugh.
Rian got up from his chair to pull out the others "Please cadet come and sit" he said gesturing for her to take a seat "I'm Irish and Vulcan not Klingon I won't bite" he said with a slight laugh "My dad you might know him Commodore O'Donngahue? transferred you the moment he knew we needed a medical officer can I offer you tea? coffee?"
Abigail slightly stumbled on an invisible crack. "Whoops and tea is lovely, thank you. Sorry don't worry I won't spill the tea." taking a seat. "I am surprised to have this happen but I'm all for it. Hopefully I won't cause much trouble." giving a slight giggle.
Rian made some tea for the both of them, grabbing her record from the back desk " take this miss gordon its a O'donnaghue family recipe it'll ease your nerves" he said looking over her transcripts, second year results and her majors. Rian was not an easy man to please "Judging from these you'll make a fine medical officer" He said taking a sip from his tea, grabbing her name tag, security clearance and side arm from his drawer "These are all yours you must wear your badge at all times only off when you sleep" He said with a tilt of his head "Are we following?" he said with a brief smile "Now as your the most senior medical officer on board right now you have the same level of clearance a chief position holds that will change once and if we get a chief medical officer in my personal opinion Miss Gordon I can see you becoming quite the staple around here" he said looking over at the mug at her.
Abigail nodded taking a big gulp of her tea and peered over the edge of her own mug. "That sounds...oh wow this tea is fantastic and yes I am following you." blinks, feeling that she was tossed into an interesting situation. "I will certainly do my best." her eyes sparkling with excitement as well. "And don't mind my slight trip, sometimes I trip over invisible cracks."
Rian looked at her with hopeful eyes the young captain was once where she sat in his first assignment "Do you have any questions Miss Gordon" he asked taking a sip from his tea "I'll be sure to add your regards to the commodore its his recipe" he said letting his little memory taper off to thoughts of his childhood "Ahh a clumsy one the siren is the right place for you" He said with a brief smile.
"Oh good, and definitely give him my regards. When do you want me to start?" Abigail wanting to get started right away.
He looked over the roster schedule for the ship "You are on gamma shift tonight so take the next couple of hours to relax and get some rack time and then meet your new instructor in sick bay"
"Okay will do and, thank you, I am very excited to start. Hopefully I will get some sleep." Abigail replied standing up, rather eager for this new adventure to begin.
Rian looked to her his eyes hopeful "I like the way you think cadet" he said looking over the roster "I can shift you to alpha tomorrow if it suits to give you a full 12 hours to settle in and then go and see Maec and Jayden first thing tomorrow morning both will be on shift and you'll have a chance to meet the brightest minds my family have" he said with a brief smile.
"Okay, whichever you think the best." Abigail said brightly. "Either way and where you need me." giving a nod. "I'll go get things settled then and will see you Tomorrow.
He looked at the rosta and crossed out her name for gamma shift tonight and placed her on Alpha for the morning starting at 9 am "Ok Cadet I have altered your rota so that you will be on Alpha from tomorrow morning at 9am I hear Maec and Jayden like to run a tight sick bay don't be late or my Romulan second cousin will have my ass for it" he said with a wink "You are dismissed see you in the morning" He said with a wide smile to her.
Abigail nodded, "Don't worry, I won't be late." standing up from the chair, this time accomplishing it with a bit of grace. "Thank you, Captain. Will meet with them Tomorrow morning." giving a slight jump of excitement. She was pumped for the next part of her new life.
He smiled as he looked at her "See you tomorrow cadet gordon bright and early" he said warmly to her as he stood "I will walk you to the door if that's ok?" He was more of a father figure to most of the crew and they were his family.
